ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has expressed his deep gratitude to the United Kingdom for its solidarity and readiness to support Pakistan’s relief and recovery efforts in the wake of the recent devastating floods.

He shared these sentiments during a telephone conversation with the British Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, David Lammy.

The British Foreign Secretary conveyed heartfelt condolences on the tragic loss of lives caused by the flash floods and reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s commitment to standing by Pakistan in this difficult time.

He acknowledged the scale of the disaster and assured the UK’s continued support in both immediate humanitarian relief and long-term recovery efforts.

The recent flash floods in northern Pakistan, triggered by unprecedented monsoon rains and accelerated glacial melt, have caused widespread devastation across several mountainous districts. Entire communities have been displaced, infrastructure severely damaged, and dozens of lives lost.

The northern regions, known for their vulnerability to climate-induced disasters, remain in urgent need of both national and international assistance to manage the crisis and support the affected populations.

Deputy Prime Minister Dar welcomed the UK’s gesture and emphasized the importance of international collaboration in responding to the growing impact of climate-related disasters. He noted that Pakistan, despite contributing minimally to global carbon emissions, faces disproportionate climate risks and requires global partnerships to build resilience and safeguard vulnerable communities.

He also highlighted the long-standing ties between Pakistan and the United Kingdom, expressing optimism for enhanced bilateral cooperation in diverse areas, including trade, development, and climate adaptation. Dar reiterated his commitment to strengthening engagement with the UK leadership and appreciated the continued goodwill extended by the British government and people.

David Lammy also extended his best wishes to the Deputy Prime Minister for a productive and successful visit to London, where further discussions on mutual interests are expected to take place.
