UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan has called on the Afghan interim government to honour its international obligations and commitments, stressing that cross-border terrorism and human rights violations continue to threaten regional peace and stability.

Speaking at an Interactive Dialogue with the UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in Afghanistan, Pakistan’s Counsellor Muhammad Jawad Ajmal reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to a stable and prosperous Afghanistan, which he described as vital for lasting peace in the region.

Ajmal warned that terrorism emanating from Afghan territory remains the gravest threat to Pakistan’s national security and the safety of its citizens.

He said terrorist entities, including ISIL-K, TTP (Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan), Fitna Al Khwarij, BLA (Balochistan Liberation Army), and the Majeed Group, continue to operate from Afghan sanctuaries, where terrorist camps serve as hubs for cross-border infiltration and attacks.

He asserted that, like any sovereign nation, Pakistan reserves the right to regulate its borders and “will not compromise on national security.”

Ajmal also voiced serious concern over the Taliban’s discriminatory policies, particularly those that bar women and girls from education and employment, urging the Afghan authorities to respect fundamental human rights and international commitments.
