Pakistan Backs Iran’s Right to Peaceful Nuclear Power: PM

President Pezeshkian expresses gratitude to Pakistan for its support to Iran against Israeli aggression.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Iran’s right to acquire nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

He stated this during a a joint press conference with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who is on his first official visit to Pakistan.

PM Sharif stated that Iran, like any other sovereign nation, has the full right to develop nuclear technology for civilian use. “Pakistan stands with Iran on its peaceful nuclear ambitions,” he said, emphasizing the importance of mutual respect, regional cooperation, and solidarity in difficult times.

The two leaders discussed a wide range of topics, including bilateral relations, regional security, cultural and religious ties, and the need for stronger economic cooperation. The two countries signed several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), with a shared goal of boosting bilateral trade to $10 billion.

Condemnation of Israeli Aggression

PM Shehbaz condemned Israel’s recent acts of aggression against Iran and the ongoing brutality in Gaza. “Newborns are being killed, women and youth are being martyred,” he said. “The civilized world must raise its voice against the atrocities in Gaza and unite for peace.”

He drew a parallel between the situation in Gaza and occupied Kashmir, noting that both regions are experiencing similar oppression. He also offered prayers for the Iranian military personnel killed in Israeli strikes.

Iranian President Thanks Pakistan 

President Pezeshkian thanked Pakistan for its warm hospitality, calling it Iran’s “second home.” He expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s support against Israeli actions, and emphasized the urgency of Muslim unity in today’s geopolitical climate.

He said that Iran’s foreign policy prioritizes strong relations with Pakistan, and outlined steps being taken to enhance cross-border trade, establish joint economic zones, and improve border security.

“The region’s stability is closely tied to peace and development,” he added, accusing Israel of pursuing an agenda of regional destabilization.
