UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Asim Iftikhar stated that Pakistan also condemned recent U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran.
He noted that two Pakistanis were killed in Iranian attacks on the UAE, which pose a threat to global peace.
Addressing the UN Security Council, Iftikhar expressed hope that attacks on Gulf countries would cease immediately and that navigation rights and freedoms in the Strait of Hormuz would remain protected.
He emphasized that these nations should not face the worst consequences of war, and Pakistan stands in full solidarity with their governments and people.
Pakistan views the draft resolution submitted by Russia positively. The resolution, prepared within the framework of the UN Charter, urges all parties to halt military activities immediately, avoid further escalation, and return to the negotiating table. This stance aligns with Pakistan’s overall position.
Earlier, the Security Council adopted a resolution calling on Iran to stop attacks on neighboring Gulf states. However, Russia’s proposed ceasefire resolution failed, receiving four votes in favor, two against, while nine members were absent.
