DHAKA: Pakistan and Bangladesh have signed six memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and agreements aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation.
The agreements were signed under the supervision of Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, and Bangladesh’s Advisor on Foreign Affairs, Mohammad Tauhid Hossain.
The agreements cover visa facilitation for diplomats and government officials, collaboration between the Foreign Service Academies of both countries, media cooperation between the Associated Press of Pakistan and Bangladesh’s Sangbad Sangstha, partnership between the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad and Bangladesh’s Institute of International and Strategic Studies, and the establishment of the Pakistan-Bangladesh Trade Joint Working Group.
During the delegation-level talks, both sides discussed enhancing economic and trade ties, promoting cultural exchange, strengthening people-to-people contacts, and improving education and capacity-building initiatives. Regional and global issues, including the revival of SAARC, the Palestinian issue, and the Rohingya crisis, were also deliberated.
As part of his visit, Ishaq Dar attended a lunch hosted by Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Advisor and held meetings with trade advisors, federal ministers, bureaucrats, political leaders, academics, artists, journalists, and retired military officials.
He emphasized the centuries-old shared traditions, Islamic heritage, and cultural bonds between the two nations, reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to fostering constructive, forward-looking relations.
This visit marks the first official visit of a Pakistani foreign minister to Bangladesh in 13 years, the previous visit being by former Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar in November 2012.
