UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan has called for decisive international action to ensure that the upcoming high-level conference on the Palestinian issue leads to irreversible progress toward a two-state solution.
Pakistan warned that while one faction seeks to disrupt peace efforts, the overwhelming majority of the global community stands united in support of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.
The remarks were made by Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, during informal consultations on the preparations for the June 2025 conference aimed at a peaceful resolution to the Palestinian question.
Ambassador Asim expressed full support for the upcoming conference and commended France and Saudi Arabia for co-chairing the preparatory consultations. He stressed that the international community must act to restore hope for peace and justice, particularly in light of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the West Bank.
”We hope that the June Conference will seize this moment to take meaningful action to end the unprecedented suffering of the Palestinian people,” Ambassador Asim stated. “The situation in Gaza and the West Bank is dire, and the world cannot afford inaction.”
He called for the full implementation of a ceasefire, the lifting of the Gaza blockade, and unhindered humanitarian access. The protection of civilians and humanitarian personnel must be prioritized, and any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians or annex their land must be firmly rejected.
Ambassador Asim also urged the international community to support the Gaza Reconstruction Plan and empower the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) to carry out its mandate without obstruction.
Pakistan reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with all stakeholders to ensure the success of the June conference and to advance a just and comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian issue, thereby establishing lasting peace in the Middle East.
