NEW YORK: Pakistan has demanded establishment of an urgent mechanism to ensure protection of Palestinian civilian population in accordance with international laws and relevant United Nations resolutions.
Moreover, the international community should ensure immediate, durable and sustainable humanitarian truce leading to cessation of hostilities in Gaza.
Speaking on behalf of a group of countries at the informal plenary meeting of UN General Assembly, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Munir Akram said, “We firmly reject and condemn any attempt at forced displacement of Palestinian civilian population and the illegal evacuations and relocations inside Gaza.”
He also said that displaced Palestinian people should be allowed to return o their homeland and the UN facilitate them.
Ambassador Akram said that the world should address the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip without further delay by forcing Israel to cease its occupation and hostilities.
It may be noted that on October 7, Hamas carried out surprise attacks on Israeli grom the Gaza strip and took over 200 Israelis including military personnel hostage.
Since then, Israel has been carrying out air strikes on Gaza killing thousands of people including children and women.
The Zionist state even did not spare hospitals which were bombed and their essential supplies severed.
