Pakistan, China discuss economic reforms, further cooperation

WASHINGTON: Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb at a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Lan Fo’an on the sidelines of the IMF-World Bank Spring Meetings discussed ongoing economic reforms and further bilateral cooperation.

During the meeting, Minister Aurangzeb provided an update on Pakistan’s comprehensive reform program, which includes measures in taxation, energy, privatization, public finance, and the restructuring of state-owned enterprises (SOEs).

He emphasized the government’s commitment to stabilizing the economy and fostering sustainable growth under the IMF-supported Extended Fund Facility (EFF).

The minister acknowledged China’s continued support for Pakistan’s development agenda and called for enhanced cooperation, particularly in expediting the issuance of the Panda Bond. He urged the People’s Bank of China (PBOC) to facilitate the process.

The minister extended invitation to Mr Fo’an to visit Pakistan, further reinforcing the strategic economic partnership between the two nations.
