ISLAMABAD: Expressing concerns about the unending atrocities by Israel in Gaza, Pakistan on Friday called upon the international community to stop bombing and killing of the innocent people of Palestine by the Zionist state.
Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch in her weekly press briefing said Islamabad will continue to play its role to advance international consensus and galvanize efforts for an urgent end to Israeli aggression against the Palestinians.
“As a tragedy of epic proportions unfolds in Gaza, the UN Security Council must act to fulfill its responsibility to uphold peace and call for an urgent and unconditional ceasefire, lifting of the siege and commencement of rapid, unhindered humanitarian assistance.”
The spokesperson said backers of Israel must prevail upon it to abandon its plans for settler colonialism, forced displacement and ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people.
Ms Baloch said as an occupying power, Israel must fulfill its obligations under the Fourth Geneva Convention and forthwith end the carnage in Gaza.
She said a summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation has been convened. She said Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar will represent Pakistan in the OIC summit.
To a question, she said Pakistan’s decision to repatriate aliens living in the country in violation of immigration laws was based on international practice.
