UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan has condemned Israeli airstrikes on Syria, calling them a violation of international law and a threat to regional stability.
Speaking at the United Nations, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Ambassador Asim Iftikhar said that Israel’s repeated attacks on Syrian territory reflect a pattern of impunity. He stated that the failure to hold Israel accountable had encouraged further violations.
The ambassador said Israel’s actions are weakening the UN Charter and the international legal system. He added that these attacks are aimed at destabilizing the region.
Ambassador Iftikhar also spoke about recent developments in Syria, saying that after more than a decade of conflict, the Syrian people are beginning to see new hope for peace and reconstruction. He mentioned that some international sanctions have been lifted, which has brought relief to the Syrian economy.
He said Syria is making slow but steady progress toward national recovery and that its leadership has shown a willingness to build peaceful relations in the region.
Calling the Israeli attacks “unjustified and harmful,” he said that Syria needs support and solidarity at this time. Pakistan, he added, fully supports the Syrian people.
Earlier this week, Israeli airstrikes targeted several areas in Damascus, including the Ministry of Defense and locations near the Presidential Palace.
