ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has decided to brief the United Nations Security Council in light of the growing tensions in the region.
According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has instructed Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN to take immediate steps to convene an emergency session of the Security Council.
The statement said Pakistan will highlight India’s recent aggressive actions, particularly the illegal move to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, at the global level. Pakistan will inform the international community that these actions are not only violations of international law but also pose a serious threat to regional peace and security.
The Foreign Office clarified that this move is part of Pakistan’s consistent policy of presenting facts before international forums and working toward ensuring peace and stability in the region.
It is worth noting that in recent days, India has taken certain steps which Pakistan has termed provocative and illegal – chief among them, the alleged violation of the Indus Waters Treaty.
