ISLAMABAD: The government of Pakistan has announced significant concessions for exporters sending essential goods from Pakistan to Iran, including rice, seafood, medicines, and other products.

The move comes amid the US and Israeli aggression against Iran and also aims to  facilitate trade through Iran to Central Asian countries.

Under the temporary exemption, exporters will no longer need to arrange bank guarantees or letters of credit (LCs) for shipments to Iran or via Iranian routes, streamlining the export process and reducing costs and time. Previously, such financial instruments were mandatory, similar to exports to other countries.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Commerce, the exemption applies to all goods exported by land to Iran, Azerbaijan, and Central Asian countries.

The list of items includes rice, seafood, potatoes, meat, onions, maize, fruits, medicines, pharmaceutical products, and tents. This measure is expected to ensure timely delivery of essential goods to Iranian citizens and strengthen regional trade links.

Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal confirmed that the exemption will be in effect for three months, from March 24 to June 21, 2026.

He said the move will significantly reduce expenses and processing time for exporters, while promoting trade growth to enhance Pakistan’s economic stability.
