Pakistan Heritage Day Celebrated at Gracie Mansion, New York

NEW YORK: Pakistan Heritage Day was celebrated with grandeur at Gracie Mansion, the official residence of New York City’s Mayor, in a historic event hosted for the first time by the Mayor’s Office.

The event was attended by the Consul General of Pakistan in New York, Mr. Aamer Ahmed Atozai, and Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad. A moment of silence was observed in remembrance of the victims of recent floods in Pakistan.

In his remarks, Consul General Atozai expressed gratitude to Mayor Eric Adams for recognizing the contributions of the Pakistani-American community and celebrating Pakistan Heritage Day. He emphasized that Pakistan’s heritage extends beyond its 1947 independence, rooted also in its ancient civilizations, pluralistic traditions, and rich cultural legacy.

He highlighted the Pakistani-American community’s integral role in New York’s social, civic, and economic life, with notable achievements in medicine, academia, technology, public service, and the arts.

Ambassador Ahmad congratulated the community on Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day and acknowledged their efforts in strengthening Pakistan-U.S. relations. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to defending its sovereignty while promoting peace, progress, and international cooperation.

Mayor Eric Adams, in his address, praised the Pakistani-American community for their outstanding contributions to the city’s cultural and economic fabric and reiterated his administration’s commitment to engaging with all global communities in New York.

The occasion saw participation from city and state officials, diplomats, political leaders, and a large gathering of prominent Pakistani-American community members.

The celebration concluded with an acknowledgment of the enduring friendship between Pakistan and the United States, recognizing the Pakistani-American community as a vital bridge between the two nations.
