ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office has held Afghanistan responsible for the recent shooting in Washington D.C. and a drone strike in Tajikistan that resulted in the deaths of three Chinese nationals.
According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, the shooting incident, which occurred near the White House on Wednesday, involved two National Guard members who were critically injured. One of the injured, a woman, died on Friday.
The suspect in the shooting, an Afghan national, opened fire on the officers, and later, US President Donald Trump confirmed that one of the soldiers, a female officer, had died from her injuries.
“Pakistan strongly condemns the shooting incident that occurred in Washington, D.C., and we express our deepest sympathies to the family of the fallen officer,” said the spokesperson in Islamabad. “We also wish a swift recovery to the injured personnel.” The spokesperson further emphasized that this attack is a clear act of terrorism and a serious assault on American soil, with suspected links to Afghanistan.
The Foreign Office pointed out that such incidents are not new for Pakistan, as the country has been enduring similar acts of terrorism over the last two decades, many of which have clear connections to Afghanistan. The spokesperson added, “This tragic event underscores the continuing threat of global terrorism, with Afghanistan remaining a focal point for such activities.”
Moreover, the drone strike in Tajikistan, which killed three Chinese nationals, was also attributed to Afghan-based terror elements. The spokesperson conveyed condolences to the Chinese government and people, stating, “Pakistan extends its heartfelt sympathy to the families of the victims of the Tajikistan drone attack. Afghanistan must take responsibility and stop allowing its territory to be used for such attacks.”
The Foreign Office also stressed the urgent need for enhanced international cooperation to tackle the growing threat of terrorism, with a focus on ensuring that Afghan soil is no longer a safe haven for terrorists.
