ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office has said that matters concerning Iranian oil tankers are issues between Iran and the respective governments, and Pakistan does not hold any specific position.
FO spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi also said that Pakistan cannot directly comment on disputes between Iran and India.
Speaking at a weekly briefing, Andrabi said Pakistani leadership is maintaining continuous diplomatic contact with key regional countries, including Iran. He noted that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar had held three separate discussions with the Iranian Foreign Minister, while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also communicated with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to discuss the regional situation.
The spokesperson added that the Prime Minister will soon visit Saudi Arabia, during which close contacts with other Gulf countries will continue. He also said Prime Minister Sharif had held multiple phone conversations with the leadership of Oman, United Arab Emirates and other Gulf nations.
Andrabi underlined Pakistan’s role as a regional bridge, facilitating dialogue between different capitals. “Pakistan’s position is that all disputes should be resolved through respect for sovereignty, international law, and dialogue,” he said.
On Afghanistan, he stated that there had been no major change in Pakistan’s approach. A recent delegation visit to Afghanistan was in a private capacity, while a formal negotiation process continues. A delegation led by China’s Special Representative will soon arrive in Pakistan to further discussions. Andrabi also noted that Afghan Taliban forces had recently carried out over 50 aggressive incidents across the country.
