ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is no longer in the list of hunger hotspot countries as a United Nations body has removed it from the list based in its monitoring and other reports.

The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) announced its decision the other day; however, it said Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber Pakthunkhwa provinces will continue facing acute food insecurity at 20-25 per cent.

A recent World Bank report stated that the prices of food items in Pakistan changes from April to June 2024 that eased pressure on the poor people.

Though Pakistan is an agricultural country, food insecurity gas been a major issue for a large portion of its population due to rising population and low agricultural yields mainly because of climate change issues and lack of technological advances in the sector.

An official in Islamabad said that the removal of Pakistan from the list of hunger hotspots was a positive development and a result of the current government’s policies to put the country on the path of development.
