ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has said that Pakistan has played a key role in promoting global measures against Islamophobia.
In a message on the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, Ishaq Dar stated that Pakistan’s efforts led the United Nations to declare March 15 as the International Day Against Islamophobia.
He added that the rising incidents of Islamophobia pose a threat to global peace and interfaith harmony.
The foreign minister expressed concern over disrespect toward the Holy Quran, attacks on mosques, and targeting of women wearing the hijab.
Ishaq Dar welcomed the appointment of a UN Special Envoy to combat Islamophobia and said that Pakistan is working with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the UN to eliminate Islamophobia.
He called for global unity in condemning Islamophobia and promoting mutual respect.
