CAIRO: Pakistan’s hockey team has secured a spot in the World Cup after an eight-year gap.
In the semi-final of the Hockey World Cup Qualifiers in Egypt, Pakistan defeated Japan 4-3 in a thrilling encounter to advance to the final.
Goalkeeper Ali Raza played a crucial role, saving a penalty stroke in the final minutes to ensure Pakistan’s victory. Goals for Pakistan were scored by Sufiyan Khan, Abu Muhammad, Muhammad Emad, and Afraz.
With just four minutes remaining, Japan was awarded a penalty stroke, which Ali Raza successfully stopped, securing the win for Pakistan.
This victory is particularly significant as Pakistan had failed to qualify for the previous World Cup. The team will now compete in the Men’s Hockey World Cup 2026, scheduled to be held from August 14 to 30 in Belgium and the Netherlands.
