UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan has once again emphasized its steadfast support for United Nations peacekeeping operations, reaffirming its role as a key contributor to global peace and security.
The reaffirmation came as Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, addressed a briefing of the UN Security Council on UN Peacekeeping Operations. He highlighted the vital contribution of UN Police in conflict prevention, stabilization, and post-conflict peacebuilding across the world.
Ambassador Asim Iftikhar noted that Pakistan has a long and proud history of participation in UN peace missions, having deployed more than fifty Formed Police Units to various operations, including in Haiti, Darfur, Timor-Leste, and Côte d’Ivoire.
Paying homage to the sacrifices made in the line of duty, he said eleven Pakistani police personnel have lost their lives while serving under the UN flag.
He further informed the Council that Pakistan currently maintains a Formed Police Unit on rapid deployment readiness, demonstrating its continued preparedness and commitment to supporting international peacekeeping efforts.
