UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan has once again renewed its demand for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
Speaking at a meeting of the United Nations Security Council, Pakistan’s permanent representative Asim Iftikhar Ahmad explained that Pakistan voted in favour of the resolution supporting Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan. He said that Pakistan’s primary aim is to help stop the killing of innocent Palestinian civilians in Gaza and to work toward a peaceful solution.
According to him, lasting stability in the region cannot be achieved without recognizing and supporting the rights of the Palestinian people. He also expressed gratitude to the Security Council for approving the resolution.
The UN Security Council passed the resolution endorsing Trump’s Gaza peace plan with thirteen votes in favour and none against, while Russia and China chose not to participate in the voting process.
The United States representative thanked Pakistan, Egypt, Qatar, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Türkiye and Indonesia for their cooperation, adding that all these countries recognised the seriousness of the situation and took constructive steps together.
She described the resolution as a historic development and emphasized that it includes measures such as the deployment of an international stabilization force in Gaza and the creation of an interim governing authority for the region.
Despite this, Hamas and other Palestinian resistance groups have rejected the resolution, arguing that it fails to address the fundamental rights and demands of the Palestinian people.
Hamas stated that the resolution attempts to impose international control over Gaza and warned that the presence of an international force would undermine neutrality.
The group insisted that humanitarian aid operations in Gaza should remain under the supervision of UN-monitored Palestinian institutions rather than external authorities.
