ISLAMABAD: Due to disruptions in fuel supply caused by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, Pakistan has requested Saudi Arabia to dispatch a very large crude carrier (VLCC) carrying 2 million barrels of crude oil to Oman’s port on March 23.
From there, four Pakistani vessels will collect the oil.
According to reports, Saudi authorities have not yet confirmed whether the tanker will dock at Oman’s port or deliver the oil directly within Pakistan’s maritime boundaries, creating uncertainty in the fuel supply chain.
Industry sources reported that two vessels from Pak-Arab Refinery Limited (PARCO), one vessel from National Refinery Limited, and one from Pakistan Refinery Limited (PRL) will collect crude oil from this VLCC. Some smaller shipments have already reached Pakistan.
For instance, PARCO’s shipment of 67,000 metric tons of crude oil from Fujairah, Dubai, arrived in Pakistan on Monday night.
Another PARCO vessel, PNSC, is scheduled to reach Yanbu port in the Red Sea on March 9, where it will load approximately 70,000 barrels of crude oil and return between March 19–20.
