Pakistan says murder of laborers in Iran despicable act

Govt in touch with Iranian authorities to investigate incident and hold accountable those involved in barbaric act: FO.

ISLAMABAD: Over the horrific murder of nine Pakistani laborers in Saravan area of Iran on Saturday, the Foreign Office here expressed its deep shock and dismay and termed it a despicable act.

Nine Pakistani laborers were shot dead and three others injured in Sarawan town of Iran today.

According to the media reports, the Pakistani laborers were working in a workshop and staying at their workplace. The victims belonged to Lodhran and Muzafargarh areas of Punjab.

FO spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said the government of Pakistan was in touch with Iranian authorities to investigate the incident and hold accountable those involved in the barbaric act.

“Our consul in Zahedan is en route to the hospital where injured individuals are being treated and is expected to arrive in a few hours due to the long distance and security imperatives involved,” she said in a statement.

Ms Baloch said Pakistan was fully aware of the gravity of the matter and taking all necessary measures. The embassy is committed to expeditiously repatriating the deceased.
