ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has issued a strong condemnation of Israel’s recognition of the self-declared independence of the Somaliland region in Somalia.
In a statement released today, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi rejected the announcement made by Israel, calling it a “flagrant violation of international law” and a provocative act that undermines Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
The Foreign Office said such actions threaten not only the peace and stability of Somalia, but also the broader regional security. Pakistan’s condemnation follows Israel’s move to recognize the so-called independent status of Somaliland, a region that has declared itself autonomous from Somalia but has not received widespread international recognition.
Andrabi called on the international community to step in and reject any attempts to undermine Somalia’s sovereignty. He urged global powers to prevent Israel from further disrupting the ongoing efforts for peace and stability in Somalia and the wider Horn of Africa region.
“These actions by Israel are illegal and provocatively undermine the territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia,” Andrabi said. “Pakistan reiterates its firm commitment to supporting Somalia’s unity and sovereignty.”
Pakistan’s statement reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Somali government, emphasizing its commitment to Somalia’s territorial integrity and the broader peace-building efforts within the country. The statement further declared that Pakistan remains steadfast in backing Somalia’s quest for lasting stability, peace, and development.
In the same statement, Pakistan also reiterated its longstanding and unequivocal support for the Palestinian people. Andrabi reaffirmed Pakistan’s position on Palestine, underscoring its support for the Palestinian struggle for self-determination. He reiterated Pakistan’s call for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem (Al-Quds Al-Sharif) as its capital.
