ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Somalia have agreed to bolster their cooperation in counter-terrorism and security-related matters.
The understanding was reached during a meeting in Islamabad between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and a Somali delegation led by Somali Interior Minister Ali Yusuf.
During the discussions, both sides agreed to adopt a joint strategy to combat terrorism and extremism. They also outlined plans to enhance collaboration in areas such as training, border management and disaster management.
Ali Yusufsaid his country was facing difficult circumstances and was actively engaged in combating terrorism. He expressed hope that the visit would further strengthen the bilateral relationship between Somalia and Pakistan. Yusuf also conveyed his country’s readiness to benefit from Pakistan’s expertise in policing and counter-terrorism strategies.
In response, Mohsin Naqvi assured Pakistan’s full support, acknowledging the challenges faced by Somalia. He said Pakistan would provide extensive assistance in counter-terrorism efforts and announced visa facilitation for Somali citizens seeking medical treatment or education in Pakistan.
The Somali minister presented a special message from Somali Prime Minister to Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and extended an official invitation to Naqvi to visit Somalia.
