ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Somalia have signed an agreement to abolish the visa requirement for holders of diplomatic passports, facilitating smoother diplomatic exchanges between the two nations.
The signing ceremony, held at President House Islamabad, was personally witnessed by President Asif Ali Zardari, who highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to deepening its relations with African nations, including Somalia.
During a meeting with Somalia’s Minister of Interior Ali Yousuf, President Zardari expressed Pakistan’s strong desire to enhance collaboration with Somalia across a range of shared interests. He emphasized Pakistan’s dedication to supporting regional and international efforts to tackle transnational crime, narcotics trafficking, and other security challenges.
Minister Ali Yousuf, reaffirmed Somalia’s deep appreciation for Pakistan, describing it as a long-standing and reliable partner since Somalia’s independence.
He also recalled the remarkable sacrifices made by Pakistani peacekeepers during the United Nations missions in Somalia in the 1990s, where numerous Pakistani personnel laid down their lives in the service of peace under the UN flag.
