Pakistan’s Tourism Push: Special Airport Counters for Foreign Nationals

Islamabad: In a move aimed at improving Pakistan’s image as a tourist- and investor-friendly destination, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the immediate establishment of separate immigration counters for foreign nationals at all international airports across the country.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office on Saturday, the initiative is part of a broader strategy to streamline the arrival process for international visitors and encourage greater inflows of tourism and foreign investment.

The statement said the decision was taken “to promote tourism in the country, ensure continuity of business activities and facilitate foreign investment.” By easing entry procedures, the government aims to reduce wait times and make the immigration process more efficient for both foreigners and returning Pakistani citizens.

“These designated counters will help cut down processing times and improve the overall airport experience for visitors,” the PMO noted, adding that returning Pakistanis will also benefit from shorter lines as a result of the separation.

Officials described the move as one step in a larger effort to position Pakistan as a more welcoming and efficient destination for global travelers, investors, and business delegations.

Earlier this year, Pakistan gained international recognition by winning the Best Partner Pavilion Award at the 2025 New York Travel and Adventure Show, the largest travel showcase in the United States, highlighting the country’s potential as a rising destination for global tourism.
