TEHRAN: Ninisters and delegates from Pakistan, Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan participated in the two-day Ministerial Meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) here.
The Pakistani delegation was led by Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan who emphasized the need to create more opportunities for economic growth and mutual stability in the region.
“Strong relations among ECO member states are a top priority for Pakistan,” said Khan during his address.
“We are taking the lead in developing transport corridors and enhancing regional connectivity.”
He highlighted that Pakistan has linked its rail and road corridors with the ECO network, including the Euro-Asian Transport Links and the Asian Highway, showcasing the country’s commitment to regional integration.
Khan noted that beyond the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Pakistan is advancing infrastructure projects and has digitized its road network, connecting the northern Khunjerab Pass to the ports of Gwadar and Karachi.
In a major policy move, he announced that from August 2024, Pakistan will offer visa-free access to citizens of 126 countries, aimed at boosting tourism and business.
“Over 20,000 visas have already been issued to business communities and tourists. We believe in turning challenges into opportunities,” he said.
The minister added that Pakistan values cooperation and experience-sharing with fellow ECO members and looks forward to deepening regional partnerships.
