ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said peace talks between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban held in Istanbul have ended without any breakthrough.
According to Tarar, the Afghan delegation diverted discussions away from the main agenda, which focused on preventing terrorist groups from using Afghan soil to launch attacks inside Pakistan.
“Pakistan presented concrete and verifiable evidence,” the minister said, adding that while both the Afghan side and mediators acknowledged the evidence, they offered no firm assurances or commitments to address Pakistan’s concerns.
The four-day negotiations, mediated by Qatar and Turkey, aimed to promote regional peace and stability. Tarar expressed appreciation for their efforts but confirmed that Pakistan will continue its operations against terrorists and their facilitators.
He emphasized that Pakistan’s actions are not directed against the Afghan people, but are intended to protect its citizens and uphold national security, which remains the government’s “top priority.”
Tarar concluded that while Pakistan will continue to pursue diplomatic channels, it reserves the right to take all necessary measures to eliminate threats from across the border.
