Pakistan, U.S. begin formal talks on bilateral tariffs

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the United States have officially commenced negotiations on bilateral tariffs, signaling a renewed commitment to enhancing trade ties between the two nations.

According to the Ministry of Finance, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb held a virtual meeting with U.S. Trade Representative Jameson Greer to initiate discussions. The talks were described as constructive with both sides exchanging views in a positive and cooperative atmosphere.

The Finance Ministry stated that both countries had agreed to hold detailed technical-level talks in the coming weeks. The discussions aim to resolve tariff-related issues and improve the overall framework of bilateral trade.

Both sides expressed a strong commitment to concluding the negotiations successfully and as swiftly as possible, it added.

The development marks a significant step in strengthening economic relations between Pakistan and the United States, and could pave the way for increased market access and reduced trade barriers in the near future.
