LOS ANGELES: Pakistan has called on the international community to take serious cognizance of what it describes as an alarming rise in fascist and jingoistic rhetoric emerging from India, warning that such developments pose a grave threat to regional and international peace.
Speaking during a public engagement hosted by the Los Angeles World Affairs Council (LAWAC), Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Rizwan Saeed Sheikh strongly criticized the growing influence of extremist Hindutva ideology and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) within India’s ruling establishment.
“The international community must not turn a blind eye to the reckless and provocative posturing of an increasingly hegemonic regime in India,” said Ambassador Sheikh. “Such rhetoric, rooted in fascism and driven by ultranationalist agendas, directly undermines regional stability and global peace.”
His comments came during a high-profile diplomatic engagement at the Consulate General of Pakistan in Los Angeles, where he met with a delegation from LAWAC led by Board Chair Maria Contreras-Sweet. The meeting included wide-ranging discussions on regional dynamics, security challenges, and bilateral economic cooperation.
In his remarks, Ambassador Sheikh also reiterated Pakistan’s firm stance on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, describing its peaceful resolution, in line with UN Security Council resolutions, as central to lasting peace in South Asia. He warned that Pakistan retains the right to defend itself under the UN Charter in response to any future Indian aggression.
Highlighting Pakistan’s commitment to international legal norms, the Ambassador emphasized the strategic importance of upholding treaties governing transboundary water resources, which he said are closely tied to both national security and regional development.
Ambassador Sheikh also acknowledged the constructive role of the United States in recent regional ceasefire efforts and reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to expanding its strategic partnership with the U.S., especially in the context of counter-terrorism and evolving geopolitical developments.
The Ambassador urged global institutions and stakeholders, including those present at LAWAC, to remain actively engaged in fostering dialogue, peace, and mutual understanding amid rising regional tensions.
