UNITED NATIONS: During a crucial United Nations Security Council meeting held to discuss the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to UN Ambassador Asim Iftikhar called on the international body to play an active role in facilitating an immediate ceasefire between the two countries.
Ambassador Iftikhar strongly condemned what he described as Israel’s aggression against Iran, labeling it a violation of international law and the UN Charter. “Pakistan condemns Israel’s unlawful actions and aggression against Iran. These acts pose a serious threat to regional peace and stability,” he said during his address to the Council.
The Pakistani envoy emphasized the need for diplomacy, urging both parties to engage in immediate dialogue. “The Security Council must fulfill its responsibility to prevent further escalation. Diplomatic efforts must be given a chance, and a peaceful resolution should be prioritized before the situation spirals out of control,” he added.
Highlighting Pakistan’s consistent stance on regional peace, Ambassador Iftikhar affirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with Iran in the face of Israeli attacks. He also advocated for resolving concerns regarding Iran’s nuclear program through dialogue and underscored the importance of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) working impartially and transparently.
“The use of force and unilateral measures undermine the rules-based international order. The only sustainable solution lies in peaceful negotiations and mutual respect for sovereignty,” he concluded.
The Security Council meeting comes amid heightened tensions and cross-border hostilities between Iran and Israel, raising fears of a broader conflict in the Middle East.
