UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Nations Asim Iftikhar Ahmed has said that Gaza is on the brink of complete destruction following Israeli airstrikes and a worsening humanitarian crisis.
Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting, Ambassador Ahmed said the situation in Gaza is “unbelievable” and described the current conditions as a modern-day tragedy.
He said that hospitals are barely operating due to the breakdown of supply chains. He also accused Israel of using hunger as a weapon of war, saying that delivering aid has become extremely dangerous.
According to UN data, 798 aid workers have been killed since late May, with 615 of them dying in or near aid centers.
The ambassador said that the current aid system is failing and is pushing Palestinian civilians into active war zones just to access food and other essentials. He described the aid system as a “trap of death.”
Ambassador Ahmed also highlighted that the supply of baby formula and other life-saving items is blocked, putting newborn children at immediate risk of death from hunger.
He said that the aid reaching Gaza is not enough, and its delivery is poorly managed. It does not meet the standards of international humanitarian law.
Pakistan has called for immediate and unrestricted access for food, fuel, and medical supplies to Gaza.
The ambassador urged the international community to allow life-saving aid to enter Gaza without delays and to restore a neutral and independent humanitarian system, rather than one that is politically or militarily controlled.
He warned that the current system sets a dangerous example that could harm civilians in future conflicts around the world.
