Pakistan Weighs UN Request for Food Aid to Afghanistan: Dar

ISLAMABAD: The government is assessing a United Nations request to allow the delivery of essential food supplies to Afghanistan.

This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said. He said humanitarian cooperation must be balanced with Pakistan’s security priorities.

Addressing a news conference in Islamabad, he said Pakistan is prepared to significantly expand cooperation with Afghanistan provided Kabul takes credible and verifiable action against terrorist groups operating from its territory.

Dar added that Pakistan’s commitment to resolving bilateral issues through dialogue is unquestionable, recalling his three visits to Kabul between April and August as evidence of Islamabad’s sincerity.

Speaking about the UN’s request for humanitarian access, Dar said Pakistan will try to facilitate food relief for Afghan civilians. However, he cautioned that Pakistan cannot ignore the rise in Afghanistan-linked terrorist incidents that have claimed innocent lives inside the country. “Such actions warrant no sympathy,” he remarked.
