Pakistani-American Student Elected President of New York’s Largest College Union
NEW YORK: In a remarkable achievement, Pakistani-American youth Chaudhry Faisal Mahmood has been elected president of the student union at Suffolk County College — the largest campus within the State University of New York (SUNY) system.
The student body election, held between April 28 and May 1 through the college’s online voting portal, drew considerable participation. After a two-week-long campaign, Faisal emerged victorious, winning overwhelming support from a diverse student population.
While speaking after his win, Faisal Mahmood expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the communities that backed his campaign. “Their support and collaboration played a vital role in this victory,” he stated.
Representing Over 25,000 Students
During the 2025–2026 academic year, Faisal will represent more than 25,000 students enrolled at the college. His new role puts him at the forefront of student advocacy, engagement, and policy-making.
He emphasized that the campaign trail offered valuable experiences. “Interacting with students from different backgrounds taught me so much. These insights will guide my future vision and planning,” he noted.
Moreover, Faisal extended deep appreciation to his campaign team for their dedication. “Their passion and energy meant the world to me,” he added.
