NEW YORK: Brooklyn’s vibrant Pakistani-American community turned out in force to mark Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day, at a spirited celebration organized by the Pak American Society (PAS USA).
The event blended patriotic pride with a heartfelt salute to Pakistan’s armed forces, highlighting their recent victory in Operation “Bunyan al-Marsous.”
Representing Consul General Aamer Ahmed Atozai, Deputy Consul General Umar Sheikh delivered greetings to the diaspora, praising their steadfast commitment to the homeland. He lauded Pakistan’s success in the May 2025 operation, describing it as a defining moment that showcased the military’s courage, precision, and unity of purpose.
Operation Bunyan al-Marsous, named after a Qur’anic phrase meaning “a structure firmly joined together”, was launched on May 10, 2025, in response to Indian airstrikes. The campaign combined precision drone and missile strikes with coordinated cyber operations, targeting critical Indian military infrastructure.
Pakistani officials have hailed the mission as a decisive assertion of national defense.
Mr. Sheikh paid tribute to fallen heroes and veterans, affirming that peace, stability, and national cohesion remain Pakistan’s guiding priorities. He called on overseas Pakistanis to contribute to the nation’s progress through education, investment, philanthropy, and by promoting a positive global image.
The program featured stirring patriotic speeches from children, cultural performances, and messages of unity from community leaders. Organizers expressed gratitude for the Consulate General’s continued outreach and support.
The evening closed with collective prayers for Pakistan’s peace and prosperity, echoing through chants of “Pakistan Zindabad,” as attendees reaffirmed their shared commitment to a stronger, united Pakistan.
