Pakistani Diplomat Assumes Office as D-8 Secretary General

ISTANBUL: Pakistani diplomat Suhail Mahmood has officially assumed charge as the Secretary General of the Developing Eight (D-8) Organization.

The assumption of office took place during a formal ceremony at the D-8 Secretariat headquarters in Istanbul. On the occasion, Mahmood paid tribute to the services of the outgoing Secretary General Ambassador Isiaka Imam, and emphasized the need for effective implementation of priority programs and strategic initiatives within the D-8 framework.

Ambassador Mahmood underscored his commitment to strengthening cooperation among D-8 member states and advancing the organization’s objectives through focused planning and collaboration.

Mahmood previously served as Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary from 2019 to 2022, bringing extensive diplomatic experience to his new role.

The D-8 Organization, comprising eight developing Muslim-majority countries, aims to enhance economic cooperation and promote sustainable development among its member states.
