HOUSTON: A Pakistani doctor was stabbed to death in the Houston city of Texas, police said on Monday.
They said Dr Talat Jahan Khan, 52, a child specialist originally from Pakistan, was attacked at a residential building where she lived. The attacker stabbed her multiple times and the doctor died of the stab wounds soon afterward.
Police later arrested a young man on charge of homicide and started an investigating to ascertain the motive of the murder.
Police said the 24-year-old white American was being probed to know the reasons behind the murder.
The alleged killer has been identified as Miles Joseph Fridrich.
Relatives of the doctor told the police that they had never seen or heard of the killer in the past. They said Dr Jahan had shifted to Houston in July this year.
Ambassador shocked
Pakistan’s Ambassador Masood Khan expressed shock and grief over the murder of Dr Talat Jehan Khan.
In a condolence message, he expressed deepest condolences and said the embassy of Pakistan in Washington DC and the Consulate General in Houston were ascertaining facts from the bereaved family and the relevant authorities.
Masood Khan termed the incident as “shocking” and a “senseless act of violence.”
