Pakistan’s Airspace Sees Surge in Overflights Amid ME Conflict

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s airspace has witnessed a significant increase in overflights due to the ongoing war situation in the Middle East, according to aviation sources.

Data from global flight tracking service Flightradar24 shows that several air routes passing through Pakistan and Afghanistan have become among the busiest corridors in the world under the current circumstances. Images obtained from the tracking platform indicate a noticeable rise in air traffic across both countries’ airspace.

Sources within the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority said the sharp increase in overflights is expected to generate millions of dollars in additional revenue for Pakistan’s aviation industry. Overflight fees, charged to international airlines using Pakistani airspace without landing, constitute a key source of income for the sector.

The surge follows restrictions and closures in parts of the Middle East’s airspace, prompting airlines to reroute flights through alternative corridors, including those over Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Aviation experts say the trend may continue as long as instability persists in the region, potentially strengthening Pakistan’s position as a strategic transit route for international air travel.
