‎Pakistan’s envoy, UN chief emphasize peace in South Asia

‎NEW YORK: Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Asim Iftikhar met UN Secretary General António Guterres to discuss the latest developments in South Asia and the growing tensions in the region.

‎During the meeting, both leaders emphasized the importance of peace and stability in the region and the need to reduce tensions through constructive diplomacy. 

‎Ambassador Asim reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to sustainable peace and stability in South Asia.

‎The meeting took place at a time when the situation in South Asia remains tense, and the international community’s focus is once again turning toward the region.

‎Ambassador Asim is also scheduled to hold a significant press conference in New York today, which will take place at 8 PM Pakistan Standard Time. He is expected to outline Pakistan’s position and provide updates on the regional situation.

‎Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Rizwan Saeed Sheikh stated that in the aftermath of the Pahalgam incident, the US expects a responsible approach from all parties involved. He noted that the US Secretary of State had also stressed, at the highest level, the need for both Pakistan and India to act responsibly and avoid further escalation.

‎These diplomatic engagements and Pakistan’s active diplomacy at the global level indicate Islamabad’s efforts to garner international support for peace and stability in the region.
