Palestinian groups end differences to fight for separate state

Hamas, Al-Fatah and 14 other groups sign agreement after talks hosted by China.

BEIJING: Hamas, Al-Fatah and other Palestinian groups have held meetings in the Chinese capital of Beijing and decided to end all their differences.

According to media reports, China officially hosted the three-day talks in which representatives of the Palestinian ruling party Al-Fatah, Hamas abd other groups participated. At the end of the talks, the groups announced an end to differences. They vowed to unitedly work for the independence of Palestine.

The reports added that besides Al-Fatah, Hamas, 14 groups of Palestinians participated in the talks from July 21 to 23. At the end of the sittings, the participants signed a document promising to jointly work for the betterment of the Palestinians and establishment of a separate state of Palestine. 

Hamas and Al-Fatah group that has been ruling the Palestinian territory developed serious differences after the 2006 elections. In that elections, Hamas had won majority seats but it was not given the government. As a result, Hamas firmed its government only in Gaza while the Al-Fatah group has been governing the West Bank.
