Passenger Plane Crashes, All 11 People Onboard Killed

JAKARTA: A small passenger aircraft in Indonesia crashed and was destroyed today, killing all 11 people onboard.

The aircraft, a regional ATR 42-500, operated by Indonesian Air Transport, was en route from Yogyakarta to Makassar, South Sulawesi. The plane lost contact with air traffic control approximately 12 miles before reaching its destination airport.

The crash occurred in a mountainous area near Liangliang, Maros District, where wreckage from the aircraft has been located. Initial reports suggest that three passengers and eight crew members were onboard at the time of the crash.

Search and rescue teams, comprising 60 personnel and experts, have been dispatched to the crash site, where efforts to locate survivors and recover the wreckage are ongoing.

According to Indonesia’s aviation director, the aircraft was not on its designated approach path, and air traffic control had directed it to correct its course. However, the connection was lost, and an emergency alert was issued.

Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the crash, with authorities focusing on whether technical issues, weather conditions, or other factors contributed to the tragedy.
