KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) still facing major disruptions as its aircraft engineers continued their protest, resulting in dozens of flight delays and cancellations across the country.
According to the Society of Aircraft Engineers Pakistan (SAEP), the engineers have refused to clear aircraft that do not fully meet safety standards, stressing that flight safety will not be compromised under administrative pressure.
In a statement, SAEP confirmed that six engineers stationed at Peshawar Airport were recently transferred to Karachi but remain on duty, certifying only those planes deemed completely airworthy.
The engineers’ demands include a salary revision pending for the past eight years, timely provision of spare parts, and the creation of a safer, more professional work environment.
During the ongoing protest, private contractor engineers reportedly cleared only two flights — one from Peshawar to Jeddah and another from Islamabad to Dammam.
The deadlock between the PIA management and its technical staff has caused widespread disruption to both domestic and international flight schedules, leaving passengers stranded at major airports.
