ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered the acceleration of actions against tax evasion and smuggling, stressing the need for a firm stance on these issues.
Chairing a weekly review meeting in Islamabad, the prime minister emphasized that no leniency would be shown in combating these illegal activities, which continue to harm the country’s economy.
During the meeting, Sharif was briefed on the progress of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR)’s ongoing anti-smuggling initiatives. He commended the successful operations carried out by FBR and Pakistan Customs, noting a significant reduction in smuggling activities as a result of effective enforcement measures.
The premier pointed out that the nation incurs losses worth billions of rupees each year due to smuggling. He praised the steps taken to curb this issue, allowing several commodities to be imported legally, thereby integrating them into the formal economy.
PM Sharif also instructed provincial governments to extend full cooperation to FBR in taking legal action against illegal petrol pumps.
