ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that November 6 stands as a powerful symbol of the Kashmiri people’s courage, resilience, and unwavering commitment to their struggle for freedom.
In his message on Jammu Martyrs’ Day, the Prime Minister said that November 6, 1947, remains one of the darkest days in the history of Jammu and Kashmir. On that day, Indian forces and extremist groups carried out a mass killing of nearly 237,000 Kashmiri Muslims, aiming to change the region’s demographic makeup.
He said that the atrocities of 1947 were the first attempt to alter the Muslim-majority character of Kashmir, and that India continues to use similar unlawful tactics even today. He linked these actions to the Indian government’s decision of August 5, 2019, which revoked the region’s special constitutional status.
The Prime Minister paid tribute to the martyrs of Kashmir, saying that Pakistan deeply honors their sacrifices and remains steadfast in its support for their right to self-determination.
Shehbaz Sharif condemned India’s continued human rights violations and illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir, calling them a breach of international law and UN Security Council resolutions.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to continue its political, diplomatic, and moral support for the Kashmiri people and vowed to raise the issue at all international forums.
The Prime Minister also urged the international community to take a firm stand against India’s actions in Kashmir and to work toward a peaceful settlement of the dispute in line with UN resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
