NEW YORK: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif forcefully raised the issue of terrorism being sponsored inside Pakistan during his meeting with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres in New York.

The Prime Minister also brought up India’s violations of the Indus Waters Treaty and reiterated Pakistan’s firm stance on the longstanding Kashmir dispute.

The meeting was held after Sharif’s address to the UN General Assembly. He emphasized that a just and peaceful settlement of the Kashmir issue, in line with UN Security Council resolutions, remains indispensable for regional peace.

The Prime Minister praised the Secretary-General’s role in easing tensions in the aftermath of the recent Pakistan-India conflict, stressing that sustained international engagement is vital to ensure peace and stability in South Asia.

Turning to the Middle East, Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s unequivocal support for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and urged renewed efforts to open the path toward the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state.

Highlighting Pakistan’s broader vision, he underscored the importance of strengthening multilateralism and reiterated Pakistan’s confidence in the United Nations as the central platform for addressing global challenges.

Sharif also thanked the UN for acknowledging Pakistan’s efforts in responding to the recent devastating floods. He urged the international community to provide additional financing to climate-vulnerable countries like Pakistan, which continue to face disproportionate environmental challenges.
