ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized the importance of protecting water resources for national, environmental and social well-being.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the complete and fair implementation of the Indus Waters Treaty (1960).
In a message on World Water Reservoirs Day, the Prime Minister stated that the day serves as an opportunity for Pakistan and the international community to renew their commitment to the sustainable preservation and effective management of water resources.
He noted that protecting water reservoirs is not only an environmental duty against climate change but also crucial for social welfare at both individual and collective levels.
PM Sharif reiterated that Pakistan, while respecting international law, remains committed to the fair implementation of the Indus Waters Treaty and strongly rejects any attempt to use water as a weapon, calling such actions a serious violation of global norms.
This year, World Water Reservoirs Day is being observed under the theme: “Water Reservoirs and Traditional Knowledge: Preserving Cultural Heritage”, which highlights the cultural significance and historical importance of water management.
