LACHIN: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Lachin, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir.
According to an official statement, Prime Minister Sharif congratulated President Aliyev and the people of Azerbaijan on their Independence Day and expressed gratitude for Azerbaijan’s unwavering support for Pakistan. He remarked that the bond between the people of Pakistan and Azerbaijan is deep and enduring.
The prime minister appreciated the solidarity shown by Azerbaijan’s leadership and citizens, particularly highlighting the celebrations held in Azerbaijan in support of Pakistan’s victories in its just cause against India.
During the meeting, both leaders conducted a comprehensive review of bilateral relations and expressed satisfaction with the ongoing cooperation in political, economic, defense, and cultural sectors. They reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing strategic partnership through increased investment and agreed to expedite the exchange of delegations to explore further opportunities.
Prime Minister Sharif emphasized that the holding of the meeting in Lachin symbolizes Azerbaijan’s resilience and path to recovery and holds deep symbolic and emotional significance for both nations.
Both leaders also stressed the importance of coordinated efforts for regional stability and prosperity, as well as the promotion of principled positions on international issues.
The statement concluded with a reaffirmation of Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening its bilateral partnership with Azerbaijan and working together to advance shared goals at both bilateral and regional levels.
It is worth noting that during recent tensions with India, brotherly Islamic nations including Türkiye and Azerbaijan openly expressed their support for Pakistan. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also reiterated Türkiye’s unwavering solidarity with the people of Pakistan in both good and difficult times.
