ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif unveiled a Rs38 billion rupee Ramazan Relief Package, aimed at providing essential financial assistance to vulnerable families during the upcoming month.
The initiative will benefit a total of 12.1 million families across Pakistan, including those in all four provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.
A major portion of the package, 28 billion rupees, will be allocated to 2.1 million families who are not currently receiving any aid through government programs like the Kafalat Programme. Each of these families will be given 13,000 rupees to help ease their financial burdens during Ramazan.
In addition, 10 billion rupees will be directed towards 10 million families already enrolled in the Kafalat Programme, ensuring that they continue to receive the support they need.
To ensure the relief is distributed efficiently and transparently, the payments will be processed through bank accounts or digital wallets. This move will eliminate the need for physical distribution and reduce the chances of corruption or delays.
The digital payment method also helps preserve the dignity of recipients, ensuring they receive their aid without any stigma.
The Prime Minister has also set up a committee of cabinet members to oversee the transparent execution and fair distribution of the funds. This committee will be tasked with ensuring that the relief package reaches its intended recipients in a timely and accountable manner.
