PM Vows to Continue All-Out Efforts for Polio Eradication
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated the government’s firm commitment to completely eradicate polio from Pakistan.
The prime minister made these remarks during a meeting with a delegation of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation led by its President for Global Development Chris Elias. He said that the government is implementing a comprehensive strategy supported by an effective team to ensure the success of anti-polio initiatives.
Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan would continue to work closely with trusted partners such as the Gates Foundation until the total eradication of polio is achieved. He expressed deep appreciation for the contributions of Bill Gates, noting that his services in the fight against polio in Pakistan would always be remembered.
The prime minister also acknowledged the support of Muslim brotherly countries, particularly Saudi Arabia, in the ongoing anti-polio campaign.
While highlighting the significant progress made so far, he said that further emergency measures are essential to achieve complete eradication of the disease. He said the federal government is working in close coordination with provincial authorities to ensure access for polio teams across the country. He added that anti-polio projects under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) are also being actively pursued.
During the meeting, Chris Elias expressed full confidence in Pakistan’s ongoing anti-polio efforts and conveyed best wishes from Bill Gates to the prime minister. He voiced optimism that Pakistan would soon achieve its goal of completely eradicating polio as a result of the continued measures.
