Police kill three suspected criminals in ‘encounter’

Three tried to escape when they were signalled to stop, say police.

SAHIWAL: Police here shot dead three suspected criminals in what it said an encounter early on Thursday morning.

The police said that at a picket its officials signalled the suspects to stop. But the armed men escaped by opening fire, promoting the police to chase them. 

Later, at Sangla area, the police intercepted them and an encounter started. The police said that its personnel shot dead the three armed men. 

However, there was no one injured in the police from the firing of the armed men. The police said arms and ammunition were recovered from the armed men.

The police also said that the three deceased were wanted in a case related to an attack on the police in which one policeman had been injured a few weeks ago.
